The voices of the folklore go beyond from tradition.

It revived as the future folk songs  of life and art.

This music is to listen deeply the heartbeat from invisible ground and water veins of music. The music created by tracing the ancient layers of traditional music and folklore is reminiscent of Latin American "contemporary art of music" ,  for example Magic Realism literature. The music born from the collaboration between Eurasian and Japanese artists is a further evolution.

Min-aJi   지민아

 from Korea

Min-a Ji from Korea is a singer of Korean classic court music Jeong-ga. She sings eternal time with deep breathing.

It is different from the well-known Korean traditional, passionate "Pansori" singing. Jeong-ga are sung  with extremely slow tempo.

It showed the view of life and death of the old court life. They wished for eternity. However, from the vision of the new music, I tried to revive the various old folklore souls of the people not the noble court life, to the present day.

It contained old funeral songs, lullabies and texts of Korean traditional Pansori. And there are the folk songs and lullabies of Jeju Island,North Korea, and Mongolian nomadic culture, too. They are also connected to the culture of Okinawa, Ainu in the south and north of Japan.

The people's vision of life and death appeared there. And this work includes the documentary of Korean diaspora people called "Koryo-saram" who live in Russia and Central Asia, too. I visited Kazakhstan with a Russian contemporary woman dancer whose family roots was also Koryos-saram. This documentary elements are contained in this album.

The main axis of the album is the traditional Japanese oral performing art "Sansho the Bailiff"  which is well known for Kenji Mizoguchi's film work. My Eurasian Opera Project "Sansho the Bailiff in Korea was collaboration with Russian, Kazakhstan, Japanese, Korean, musicians and dancers include Min-a Ji.

The important theme was connecting the Korean Pansori “Sim Cheong-jeon”and Japanese "Sansho the Bailiff"  The heroines and characters in both old stories loved by people are revived in the voice of this young Korean singer. And it calms the souls of a current people whose soul are wandering. This is new Eurasian folk music.

MaryaKorneva  Мария Корнева

  from Russia

Baikal is the deepest and transparent lake in the world. Olkhon the holy island of indigenous Buryat shamanism is in the lake.

Many ethnic groups have lived since ancient times. Here is the center of Eurasian continental.

The singer Marya Korneva was born and raised there. She grew up and absorbed various cultures myth and traditional legend.  She still lives here, working in the scenes of experimental music, theater and video work.

From the collapse of the USSR to the present, Russian contemporary art scene is still mysterious and peculiar. But the potential of Russia as the multi-ethnic country with a long history is immeasurable.

It is also embodied in this female singer living in Siberia. She has an exceptionally diverse range of expressiveness, accurate interpretation of score music, flexible ability of improvisation, and theatrical and poetic sensibilities. The art of her voice that fuses them stands out in the contemporary world music scene.

The birth of new Eurasian music was created in collaboration with up-and-coming musicians who are leading Japanese contemporary music. I composed arranged with string quartet, electronics and traditional musical instruments.

And I expressed many fragments and elements with a historical background and folk cultures.  Plots of mythical, legendary, and historical fragments are intertwined with various ensembles of string quartets, electronics  and traditional instruments.

This album is a anthology of Eurasian singing the words lurking in the earth with the voice of Siren in Baikal lake. Voice of real Siren will swim in legendary holy lake and fly on Eurasian sky.
